OUR STORY
The Med vs Law Charity Classic was founded in 2024 by a small group of passionate medical and law students at the University of Ottawa.
Inspired by the longstanding rivalry between the two faculties and a shared love for hockey, the group set out to establish a new annual tradition that could extend beyond the university itself. Their aim was to create a competitive, professionally organized event that would bring students, faculty, friends, families, and members of the Ottawa community together in one setting to support organizations doing important work in our community.
The inaugural Charity Classic welcomed more than 350 spectators and established a strong foundation for the event’s future.
The Med vs Law Charity Classic has expanded considerably since its inaugural season. In 2025, the event moved to TD Place, welcoming close to 600 spectators and significantly increasing both its fundraising and community reach.
The event has raised more than $20,000, while continuing to grow in attendance, visibility, sponsorship, and involvement from Ottawa’s medical and legal communities.
The Charity Classic now returns annually with the same core identity that defined its first season, bringing Medicine and Law together through competitive hockey while continuing to raise the standard of the event each year.
The Med vs Law Charity Classic is organized entirely by students from the University of Ottawa’s medical and law programs.
Its executive team is responsible for the full delivery of the event, including sponsorship, partnerships, marketing, ticketing, venue coordination, volunteer management, and game-day operations. Students from both faculties also represent their programs on the ice.
This structure has remained central to the Charity Classic as it has grown, allowing successive teams of students to develop and deliver an increasingly ambitious event each year.
